Esperanza

The heat is upon us already! So how about a great plant that can stand up to the heat? The answer is the Esperanza shrub (Yellow Bells). Its bright yellow trumpet-like flowers are a great addition to add contrast to other colors in the garden like blues, reds and purples. It will brighten up a dull fence or a background of dark greenery.

Here are some highlights:

Likes well-drained soil

Attracts hummingbirds

Originally from southern U.S., Mexico and South America

Can also be used as a container plant

Needs fertilizer 4-6 weeks during the peak blooming season

Can be an average 4-5 ft or larger if frost free in winter

If we get a freeze, it will come back from the ground

Drought/heat tolerant
