Bananas are a very easy topical fruiting tree to grow in the Houston Bay Area. Anyone can grow bananas. There are many fruiting kinds so look into which variety you are getting. They will freeze in the winter, so they need some maturity before they'll produce fruit. If you haven't had a freeze in a few years you should begin seeing some fruit. Once a banana stalk produces fruit it dies and won't produce. You have to wait for a new stalk to begin producing. The longer the fruit stays on the tree the sweeter they are. If you aren't interested in the fruit, they make great ornamentals.
