The Encore Azalea is a great new addition to the azalea family. The obvious advantage to them is that they bloom from the end of July until the end of March the next year. It gives you continuous garden color in shrub form for a long period of time. Most azaleas in the past only grow 2-3 weeks in the spring. They come in all sizes (from 2-6 feet) and all colors from white, to striped, pink, purple and red.
They require full sun to part shade, a good raised bed with acidic soil and very regular watering. The first few years are critical for getting them established. Fertilize with an organic fertilizer like Microlife or an azalea fertilizer (we like Fertilome). Bug problems include lace bugs. REMEMBER, when you plant azaleas you MUST SPREAD THE ROOTS!
