Looking for a small tree that has dramatic spring time blooms and lovely heart shaped foliage? Redbuds are some of the most wonderful small flowering trees that you can find. Redbuds start blooming in early to mid spring, before the tree leafs out, now that’s dramatic. These blooms are brilliant pink to purple that show up a mile away. No worries about cold weather these varieties are cold hardy in our area. With all the varieties listed here you certainly can find one that fits just about any garden space.

 

Avondale Redbud, Cercis chinesis ‘Avondale’

Chinese Redbud

One of the most profuse flowering of all Redbuds. Very showy dark rose-purple flowers literally cover the stems of this small, sturdy branched tree. Glossy green foliage. Deciduous.

Forest Pansy Redbud, Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’

Redbud Tree

Purple-leaf type in which new growth emerges shimmering red-purple changing to a more subdued color as the season progresses. Showy pink-lavender blossoms are borne before leaves in spring.

Oklahoma Redbud, Cercis canadensis var. texensis ‘Oklahoma’

Oklahoma Redbud is one of the most desirable varieties of Redbud. It has deep colored, wine-red blooms and rounded, glossy leaves. It grows denser than most Redbuds, making it excellent for grouping.

Lavender Twist Redbud, Cercis canadensis ‘Covey’

Redbud Tree

This purple-leaved, weeping, grafted redbud lends a refreshing touch to especially small intimate landscape settings. It grows to 6 feet tall with contorted and arching branches. Flowers appear early in the spring. Winter branching is lattice-like. Lavender Twist needs morning sun. It is adaptable to acidic or alkaline soils.

Redbud Tree

This exciting new Redbud selection is a vast improvement over Forest Pansy Redbud. New growth emerges as a shimmering red-purple, and the heart-shaped leaves remain burgundy throughout the season. Showy pink-lavender flowers appear before the leaves in spring. Mature size is 20 to 25 feet tall and 25 to 35 feet wide.

Redbud TreeThe first known gold-foliaged Cercis! Exceptional native redbud displays a riot of color in early spring as brilliant lavender-purple blooms appear on bare branches, brightening the grayest of days. Spring foliage emerges red, maturing to gold; shaded leaves will be green. Foliage is burn-resistant even in full summer sun. Feature as a specimen or mass as an informal hedge.

Redbud Tree

Beautiful in all seasons, this highly ornamental small tree is covered with masses of brilliant rose-purple blossoms in early spring. Rounded heart-shaped leaves emerge apple green, aging to blue-green. Long seed pods ripen to purple-brown in summer. Foliage provides excellent fall color. Smooth silvery-gray branches are picturesque in the winter landscape.

Redbud TreeA beautiful small tree with pure milky white flowers in spring, followed by glossy, bluish green and heart-shaped leaves. Fall foliage has an unusual yellow cast. Height is 15 feet with an equal spread.
