Our perennial of the month for October is the beautiful dianthus, also known as pinks, carnation or sweet williams. They come in a variety of colors ranging from white to pinks to reds. Some petals are even variegated!
Dianthus require at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day. They propagate by reseeding, so don't mulch were you plant these. They are drought tolerant and range in sizes from 2" to 3' tall. Some popular varieties carry are:
- Amazon Neon Duo - these have a magenta bloom cluster on a tall stalk
- Amazon Rose Magic - a pale pink version
- Corona cherry magic - a single big bloom with a tie-dye effect on the petals of magenta and pale pink!
