General Tree & Shrub Planting Information
1. For all fruit trees, roses and azaleas** – Dig a hole big enough to put the bottom half of the root ball in the ground. Leave the top half above the existing soil level. Fill the hole with the same soil that came out of the hole. YES! Even if it’s Gumbo, put the old soil back in the hole.
Cover the top half of root ball with new soil, like Maas Organic Mix.
2. For all other trees and shrubs – Plant as above or with 1/3 the root ball above the ground and 2/3 below.
3. Newly planted trees and shrubs MUST BE WATERED EVERY DAY for the first month if it’s not raining and continue to water at least 4 to 7 times per week through the first summer. Depending on amount of shade and amount of rain.
4. Azaleas** – Root ball must be fully separated before planting.
ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK FOR THE FIRST YEAR IS NOT ENOUGH!
