The leaves are large, up to a foot long and six inches wide, and very stunning in color, a dark blackish-green with bright white veins and light stems. A semi-hardy plant, it will go dormant around 40° F, but so long as the freeze isn’t too hard, it will come back from the roots when the ground warms up in late spring, and will form clumps that can be divided every three or four years. It can be grown in the ground or in containers, indoors or out, so long as it is protected from too much sun as it will burn, but watch for spider mites indoors.
